Having played in art since childhood, Barbara absorbed the basics of art in evening classes and through reading. She spent years observing the world around her and learning to see the beauty we all share. Since retirement in 2009, she has taken classes and workshops with able and talented artists and has had the opportunity and pleasure of being able to continue learning and painting almost full time.
She has chosen to work in pastels, a dry but luminous medium applied from a compressed stick of pigment and also creates miniature paintings in acrylic. These materials have qualities that allow her to work at a pace that is for her, the most pleasurable.
She say she “paints for the simple pleasure of it, or as the song says to ‘fill up my senses’. My subjects are ordinary things - simple objects, flowers, local scenes - and serendipitous, suddenly seeing that the scene in front of me is beautiful! My goal is to give joy to myself and anyone who wishes to share. It is all about enjoyment.”
