A transplant to the Northwest in 2007, John has photographed widely in Asia, Europe and Mexico, as well as in his long-term home state of New Mexico. He works in all camera formats, but favors infrared or high-speed B&W films for interpretive images. His current photographic work at the gallery is from his "Industrial Glamour" series, featuring landmark motorcycles of the early 20th Century. Other work available in the unframed print racks include scenic views of Whidbey island and his historic automotive series from New Mexico and Washington State.
John has six years experience as a commercial photographer in New Mexico and Colorado, doing mostly architectural and product work. Over the last 28 years he has installed ten darkrooms for himself, and persists in preferring film over digital, hand-printing over ink jetting. While acknowledging that the visual distinction between the two approaches is getting extremely fine, he still prefers a hands-on relation with his images.
