About Beth Bridgers Johns
Beth grew up in the Maryland suburbs of Washington, DC. She earned a degree in Studio Art from Duke University, where she focused on printmaking, oil painting and photography. She later obtained a master’s degree in Architecture and worked in the field while raising two children in Bozeman, Montana. In 2013 Beth and her husband, Ferd, retired to Whidbey Island, Washington, where they are both pursuing and sharing their respective passions: photography and boating.
Beth finds inspiration on this beautiful island, its waters, and the surrounding mountains. She believes the artistic process is important for human wellbeing and enjoys sharing her artistic vision with others through her photographs. Her photography is inspired by the environment of the Pacific Northwest. Themes of moody gray skies and fog, reflections on water and the surprise of crisp, clean sunlight thread through her images. Her work reveals her fascination with light and mood through landscape, wildlife, and the details of local flora and fauna. She enhances the quality of form, color, and light in her photographs because it was these aspects of nature that evoked her earliest sense of wonder with the world. Beth states, “I love the creative process when it feels as if I am being directed by something beyond myself. I believe this is the essence of inspiration, and it is why I love doing photography. My hope is that what is motivated by my own surprise, wonder and awe will elicit some of the same emotions in those who view my work.” |
