About Colleen OHair
I hand dye new and upcycled clothing and accessories in my home studio. My goal is to help people feel beautiful and confident when they wear my art. I tell my collectors to choose what makes their heart sing. Life is too short to settle for just good enough.
I start with a “blank” – a white or light-colored piece of clothing or accessory – and dye them with professional dyes using the ice dye method, which takes 7-12 steps and several days. I embellish some items with original drawings, fabric, trim, and/or beads. The dye drives the process, and it becomes my muse. It suggests what should be done with each piece, and each one is completely unique. Although technically self-taught, I have been learning from others my entire life. Almost everyone in my family is an artist, and I have been drawing since I could hold a fat crayon in my little fist. My father taught me how to shade images in my coloring book, and my sister taught me contour drawing. Having worked in several mediums from glass to fabric to thread to paint, I am now involved in a different type of fabric work. My work is recognizable by its vibrant color and joy. |
